Program Overview
ILoveOV.com is launching a year-round series of interviews with mythical and iconic figures – from Cupid to Uncle Sam, from the Easter Bunny to St. Patrick. Each month, we’ll sit down with a beloved character who embodies the spirit of that season and explore what they have to say about life, community, and the unique character of Oro Valley.
Why We’re Doing This
Community Engagement Through Creativity
Traditional community journalism serves an essential role, but sometimes the most important conversations happen when we approach familiar topics from unexpected angles. By interviewing Santa Claus about community spirit or asking Father Time to reflect on the year past, we create content that’s both entertaining and meaningful. These playful interviews allow us to discuss serious community themes – gratitude, civic duty, neighborliness, growth – in ways that resonate emotionally with readers.
Consistency and Anticipation
Monthly mythical figure interviews create a rhythm readers can count on. Just as families anticipate seasonal traditions, ILoveOV readers will look forward to discovering which character appears next and what insights they’ll share about Oro Valley life. This consistency builds readership habits and gives people a reason to return to the site regularly.
Accessible Entry Points for New Readers
Not everyone wants to read city council meeting summaries or business profiles, but almost everyone has a connection to these cultural figures. A Valentine’s Day interview with Cupid about love in Oro Valley or a Presidents Day conversation with George Washington about community leadership provides welcoming entry points for readers who might not otherwise engage with local news and community content.
Flexibility and Relevance
Each interview can be tailored to address current community issues, seasonal concerns, or timely topics while maintaining the lighthearted format. The Easter Bunny might discuss spring renewal and community gardens. Uncle Sam could explore civic participation and local volunteering. St. Patrick might celebrate the diversity that enriches Oro Valley’s community fabric. The mythical framework gives us creative freedom to address what matters most to residents.
Differentiation in the Market
While other local news sources focus exclusively on straight reporting, this series positions ILoveOV.com as a community platform that informs, entertains, and connects. It demonstrates that serious community journalism doesn’t require serious formats for every story. This creative approach reinforces our tagline as “Your Virtual Neighbor” – someone who shares both important news and delightful conversation.
The Vision
By December 2026, we’ll have created a complete cycle of mythical figure interviews – a unique content library that captures a full year of Oro Valley community life through an imaginative lens. These pieces will be shareable, memorable, and distinct from anything else in the local media landscape. More importantly, they’ll remind readers that community connection can be found in unexpected places, and that sometimes the best way to discuss what matters is through the voices of characters who’ve lived in our collective imagination for generations.
